Norval Richard Richards
Norval Richard (Rick) Richards, father of Sunnybrook Surgeon-in-Chief and Professor
of Surgery Robin Richards, died peacefully at Guelph, Ontario on October 19, 2008.
Rick was a soil surveyor who had significant impact on Ontario agriculture as a
scientist and as First Dean of the Ontario Agricultural College of the University
of Guelph. He was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Sciences degree by Laval University
in 1967. In addition to his professional contributions Rick served as a leader in
the Church, in Masonic organizations, and in philanthropic endeavours. All who knew
Rick will miss his sharp sense of humour, interest in others and engagement with
life. He is survived by his wife Mary Katharine (Greer), sons Robin and Gregory,
and six grandchildren.
